In 2013, the Military Family Support Working Group (MFSWG) funders collaborative at San Diego Grantmakers, coordinated multiple meetings with stakeholders throughout San Diego County to develop a comprehensive community plan to support transitioning military families.
The result of this collaborative project was the Military Transition Support Project (MTSP). Subsequently, MTSP formed zero8hundred, a fiscally sponsored nonprofit organization that focuses on easing the transition process to civilian life for active duty service members and their families who are separating from the military and plan to live in San Diego County. The program is a unique resource hub, which utilizes both a web portal and peer navigators to refer transitioning service members and their families to services and resources available from existing social service agencies and coalition partners.
The Parker Foundation has provided two (2) grants to zero8hundred, most recently in 2016 supporting Operation Engage, which develops and implements individual giving and corporate support programs. Zero8hundred opened its doors in January 2015 and has completed its 2-year pilot program clearly exceeding all goals.
The Parker Foundation participates in many of the collaborative efforts at San Diego Grantmakers and is very proud of the success of this program that originated from MFSWG.
